NEPHROCAPS®
FAQs
Q. Why should patients on dialysis or with renal disease use NEPHROCAPS®?
A. Dialysis removes essential B vitamins and vitamin C, and a
restricted renal diet may eliminate certain foods rich in B vitamins
and vitamin C. Medications to treat other health conditions can
interfere with vitamin absorption. Since B vitamins and vitamin C can
fall below the Recommended Daily Intake, it is important to include a
daily supplement.
Q. Are NEPHROCAPS® hard to swallow?
A. Gelatin coated and shaped like a small football, NEPHROCAPS® Softgels are easier to swallow than most other renal vitamins. That’s especially beneficial for patients who must restrict fluids in their renal diet.
Q. Is there good absorption with NEPHROCAPS®?
A. Unlike some B-complex vitamins in compressed tablet form, NEPHROCAPS® contain no fillers such as phosphates and minerals. A NEPHROCAPS® Softgel dissolves quickly for fast absorption once in the stomach. The liquid center in the Softgel is designed to rapidly replace lost vitamins.
Q. Will NEPHROCAPS® make my stomach upset?
A. Patients with renal disease often face other health issues, which may cause loss of appetite or sensitive stomach. However, patients easily tolerate the NEPHROCAPS® Softgel form, avoiding possible stomach upset.
Q. Does NEPHROCAPS® have any interactions with other drugs I am taking?
A. Tell your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
Q. When do I take NEPHROCAPS®?
A. Take one NEPHROCAPS® Softgel daily or as directed by your healthcare provider. On dialysis days, take one NEPHROCAPS® Softgel after dialysis.
Q. Are there any specific precautions I should know about?
A. Folic acid may mask the symptoms associated with pernicious anemia while the disease remains and neurological symptoms progress. You should consult your physician when you are taking any products containing folic acid.
Q. Why are there different sized bottles of NEPHROCAPS®?
A. NEPHROCAPS® Softgels are supplied in 30-day and 90-day unit-of-use bottles. Patients and pharmacists like the convenient package sizes.
